We are happy to announce that we are offering a Carbon Offset Programme for the Club aircraft which is based on the hours you fly on the day. It is important to note this is not mandatory and will be up to the individual as to whether or not you want to elect to contribute. We will be partnering with Ekos to facilitate the purchase and retirement of Carbon Credits.
Ekos is a social enterprise that develops forest carbon projects in order to grow and protect forests in Aotearoa, as well as in the Pacific Islands. Ekos connects carbon offset buyers with these projects by measuring business, organisation and individual carbon footprints and supplying certified forest carbon credits to offset these footprints. Please find more detail on Ekos’ carbon credit supply chain through the following link https://ekos.org.nz/our-projects
For your average 1hr flight in a R2120 you would be looking at less than the price of a very cheap cup of coffee to offset the CO2e that you would have produced during your flight.
One of the reasons for NSAC partnering with Ekos is their focus on NZ indigenous tall forests. On a monthly basis we will purchase our offsets from Ekos and in turn these offsets will be retired on our behalf from the appropriate carbon registry. Currently, our carbon credits are being purchased from the Rarakau Rainforest Conservation Project and are being retired from the Markit Environmental Registry.
