In addition to pilot training, the North Shore Aero Club is very active in promoting recreational flying events to its members. One example of this is competition flying. These are great fun and also extend the opportunity to hone their skills be it in a landing competition (most accurate landing onto a spot), navigation or aerobatics (for example).
There are two main types of competitions held at the North Shore Aero Club, the first are internal and involve no input from members of other aero clubs. The second are external competitions with which, representatives from our aero club compete against members from other aero clubs (for example the Auckland Aero Club). There are competitions which are sanctioned by the Royal New Zealand Aero Club (RNZAC) which are run at both regional and national level. Selected winners also have the opportunity to compete against Australian aviators in the annual trans Tasman "Wings" competition. Information relating to these events can be viewed at the RNZAC web site.
