Aircraft for training / hire : Cessna 152 : United States of America

The Cessna 152 was based on Cessna's successful C150 with the first models being produced in 1978. One of the main design changes was an increase in engine size (and horsepower) to a Lycoming 0-235 engine (which generates 110hp as opposed to 100hp in a standard C150).

In 1978, a new C152 would have cost an owner approximately $15,000 USD and by the time production had ceased in 1985, 7,585 had been produced. Although production was very successful, Cessna (along with numerous other single engine aircraft manufacturers), were forced to stop production due to the spiralling costs of product liability lawsuits in the United States of America.

Even though production had ceased, the C152 has remained a very popular training aircraft throughout the world. It has even been stated that more people have flown a C150/152 model of aircraft than any other single engine aircraft ever made. A testament to the success and longevity of the model is that after more than 20 years since Cessna ceased production of the aircraft, more than 75% of all C152's ever made are still in use today.

There are over 40 examples of C152's currently on the CAA register in New Zealand and whilst the NSAC has operated a fleet of up to 9 of these aircraft in the past, our current fleet consists of 3 (1 aerobat and 2 commuters).
